“Be yourself. No one can say you’re doing it wrong.”
Charles M. Schulz (via theselittlewondersstillremain)
“The way to happiness: Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget self, think of others. Try this for a week and you will be surprised.”
Norman Vincent Peale (The Power Of Positive Thinking)
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”
Henry Ford (via qacollision)
“Do not bring people in your life who weigh you down. And trust your instincts - good relationships feel good. They feel right. They don’t hurt. They’re not painful. That’s not just with somebody you want to marry, but it’s with the friends that you choose. It’s with the people you surround yourselves with.”
Michelle Obama (via theselittlewondersstillremain)
First page of “Essay on Slavery” by Jupiter Hammon, the first African-American to publish literary works in the United States.
Written in 1786, Hammon’s manuscript poem, which is part of the Hillhouse Family Papers collection of Yale’s Manuscripts and Archives Department, recently received scholarly recognition by Professor Cedrick May of the University of Texas, Arlington.
The research by May and his student Julie McCown at Yale is the focus of an article to be published in the June 2013 edition of the journal Early American Literature along with the full text of the poem.
Anyone wanting to view the manuscript in full may do so by contacting Manuscripts and Archives at (203) 432-1744.
“We all yearn for what we have lost. But sometimes, we forget what we have.”
Mitch Albom (The Time Keeper)
“Sometimes the biggest source of inspiration comes from the person you see in the mirror everyday. Look yourself in the face and remember you ARE worth it.”
